Module new:DM.M-MD-2a
Module old:M-103
University:HfK
Semester:1
Lecturer:Frieder Nake
Credit Points:6 CP ECTS
Dates:weekly 4 SWS Th 10-14 2.10.080 start: 06.10.11
Information:The generative principle is currently en vogue. Generative Design, Generative Music, Generative Art, Generative Architecture. Hardly anyone seems to be aware of Generatrive Aesthetics as it existed in the 1960s. We thoroughly study this movement in a double approach: we create entries for the compArt database Digital Art; and we take our findings as inspirations for new creations. Their topical focus is still open and will be determined by participants.

"A sense of place" / Photography

Module new:DM.M-MD-2b
Module old:M-103
University:HfK
Semester:1+3
Lecturer:Peter Bialobrzeski
Credit Points:6 CP nach ECTS
Dates:weekly 4 SWS We 9-13 1.13.090 start: 12.10.11
Information:This workshop aims to look at the possibilities of creating "A sense of Place". Contrary to public opinion the "tools" of photography are not exposure time and aperture but the abilities of the photographer to capture the mood of a space or the sense of a person. Without those skills a photographer can t create complex bodies of work. Participants will shoot with digital cameras and will create images that will feature a personal perspective looking at a chosen place within the vincinity of the area where the workshop will be held. The question of "truth" will be an integral part of the debate in the workshop. Images might be manipulated on the computer as an extended darkroom tool. Unmanipulated images can look so strange, that we hardly believe in their authentic state. This will not be a workshop that teaches technical side of manipulation. It will rather discuss the extended possibilities of the digital image making and the way it changes our perception of a photograph. Previous research about the subject is at least recommended. How is a place being represented in contemporary photographic practice? How was it represented by painters?

Module new:DM.M-MD-a
Module old:M-103
University:HfK

This course will explore developments in sound art from the early-20th century to the present, to cultivate a critical ear for listening and creating. It will let us to discover some of the meeting points between experimental music, sound art and sound ecology. Based on discussions about these concepts and presentations of related works, it will be an immersion into an active listening of work by artists who have blurred traditional boundaries of music, science, design, fine arts, and philosophy. Included in this investigation will be several experiments in sound and your independent sound project.

Find or search - See through

Module new:DM.M-MD-c
Module old:M-103
University:HfK
Semester:1
Lecturer:T. Diezmann
Credit Points:6 CP nach ECTS
Dates:weekly 4 SWS Mo 14-18 2.10.080 start: 10.10.11
Information:More and more knowledge and business transfers are replaced by online procedures. We are looking for information, music and train connections day by day by searching on the internet for results. Not only the users effort to find something out of the increasing amount of data will increase, but also the real energy consumption of servers holding data and crawling through it will increase. In addition to that there is also the physical energy consumption of the users devices and the time consumption of the users. Is searching in the digital space as energy saving as possible? Could a basically reengineered and redesign search process - so to say a reinvented search process - make searching more efficient and more energy saving? Could a different and new design of online searches and a more transparent presentation of the search results help to find things better and faster? Aim of this project is to develop new concepts and designs for any kind of search. This could include a redesign of google, yahoo or ebay as well as any travel, flight, book, music, real estate platform or a new design of . In general and any kind of content which will be faster and easier found in the digital space. This project is structured in three phases (research, idea/concept and design/development). Deliverables: 1) Interactive UI simulation 2) Quicktime movie of the UI simulation (screen capture) 3) Documentation (Printout, PDF and poster) 4) 10 Screenshots and a project description 5) Upload of the project to the HfK website
